FDD Tools Project on SourceForge

We have recently added the FDD Tools project to Sourceforge. This project aims to produce a cross-platform, open source toolkit that supports the FDD Methodology. The first Major Feature Set, an Alpha 0.5 release, has already been uploaded to SourceForge and is available for immediate download. This release supports the generation of Project Tracking Charts (Parking Lot Charts) from a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file. The CSV file can be created by hand, or, as we have used the tool, generated from a MS Project export using a specialized map. A sample MS Project file and sample CSV files are also available for download. The Project Tracking Charts can be printed or can be exported to either .png or .jpg format.

Where to learn FDD, Object Modelling and Java Programming in one batch

Hi,

does anyone know a place where I can study the above subjects and can deepen my smattering knowledge in all of them.

It should be something like postgraduate studies between 6 and 12 month which I leave after that time with some certifications.

I appreciate any advice by you, if anyone knows such place, preferable the U.S.

FDD for non-java, non-object oriented project

Hi,

we have a large non-OO, non-java (yes these still exist!!) project to run. I am just wondering whether or not and how FDD can be applied to such a non-oo, primarily PL/SQL and forms based project.

I can see despite the design and implementation technology/technique, both are still solving a business problem (i.e., implementing features). I can see definining and tracking features can remain the same and the processe requiring tweeks in terms of defining classes and packages and assigning class ownerships etc..

So is there anyone with any experience using FDD in the similar scenario? Appreciate your insights.

OpenSource FDD Enabling Tool - fdddashboard

Hi,

On June 13th, I registered fddDashboard with SourceForge
(see: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fdddashboard/)
Which was actually before the post about FDD Manager. (submitted June 20th).
So, this is by no means a reaction on FDD Manager. At first glance it does look like an interesting and useful tool.

However, I would like to start an opensource project for an FDD Dashboard.
They goal is to provide all actors (hopefully NOT all in a first release) with the means to update a central system and pull meaningful reports from it.

So, via this forum I would like to sollicit for people who are interested in contributing to such an open source project as:

FDD for one

I've read a lot on FDD but haven't had the chance to put it into practice properly as yet and I really won't be able to for some time as I'm starting a solo venture.

If all goes well I'd conceivably have others working on the project with me at some point in the future. I'd like to start the project using best practices and a methodology that I could continue as I moved from being a one man show to a two, three, four person outfit.

Does anyone have any tips on how to best use the practices from FDD that are compatible with a single developer and what to do in lieu of those that aren't?

FDD Enabling Tool: FDDManager

I wanted to anounce the launch of an FDD enabling tool - FDDManager.

To find out more and download an evaluation copy go to http://www.fddmanager.com.

I am interested in comments/feedback/feature requests Eye-wink

FDD is repackaged Use Case Driven Development (UCDD)

Okay, I've been reading about FDD on and off for the past 9 months. The process makes sense and follows very closesly to other popular development processes. The most popular of which utilize Use Cases or User Stories in some shape or form. So, I'm confused on how Feature Sets and Features are not identical to Use Cases and their individual steps. What is wrong with writing a Use Case in the following manner:

UC 113 - Verify Hardware Module Properties

1. [Action] [Result] [Object]
2. [Action] [Result] [Object]
3. [Action] [Result] [Object]
4. [Action] [Result] [Object]
5. [Action] [Result] [Object]

my experiences with feature driven software development

Hello Everyone,

I have visited your site several times now and I have found the discussions very informative & thought provoking. They have helped me put my experiences with feature driven software development (in general but not FDD in particular) into perspective. I want to make this distinction since my experiences did not involve the use of the FDD methodology as it is proposed in this site, but rather, with ones where the product features drove the release schedule as well as the development (i.e. incremental release, themed release, Staged Delivery, etc…). I think that FDD is definitely more evolved than these others, but it too needs some more refinement, which of course is one of the goals of this site. Nevertheless, after having worked with RUP & XP, I truly think that FDD is the way to go.
