Design by feature

Hi,
I am a final year student in bachelors of IT. We have to do an R & D project for which we have chosen FDD.
Our supervisor says
"your design will depend somewhat on the methodology that you adopt and should be incorporated into your research.
Your design and methodology will influence when you test and the sort of testing that is required."

For this we got a design template, even we know what we are supposed to do but how to put that in a design document adhering to FDD?

DBF and testing

Hi Manjot,

it sounds very interesting - and it's nice to hear that students are being exposed to some current methodologies these days! I'm not sure that I understand the question fully, so I'd just like to clarify exactly what you're after?

Are you trying to figure out what testing is done in an FDD project? Or perhaps trying to figure out what design artefacts we generate and track during the "design by feature" step?

I think you've been given a design template of some description - is that correct? If you're asking how an existing design template could fit in, I'd really need some idea of what was in the template to give you a meaningful answer - perhaps you can give us an outline of what's in there? Maybe just a high-level one?

Hi Paul (Manjot)

I too am a final year IT student undertaking a team development project.
I am entirely not sure what the initial question was, however I would like to know what design artefacts you use if possible. We have no design template - just a guideline to provide useful, relevant documentation. Our project is on-going, there have been two teams before us and will be more after us. Therefore I am concerned about having good artefacts that will clearly describe the system for continuity.

I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Design artefacts

Hi Paul,
Yes i need to know what do we do in " Design by feature".
I mean how to write a report on that?
What steps do we go through.I would also like to know about testing by feature!
